Our Philosophy
It turns out your Mum was right... it really is the thought that counts, and the Not Socks team are making it their mission to help Kiwis inject the fun and excitement back into gift-giving.
You know what it’s like to get a rubbish gift. You unwrap it and try to feign delight, all the while thinking something along the lines of “this is what you got me? You don’t know me at all”... while also making a mental note to pop the item on TradeMe as soon as possible.
The tricky thing about gift giving is that sometimes the pressure to find the ‘perfect’ gift can lead to a little performance anxiety... often resulting in the rushed purchase of a thoughtless 'it'll have to do' gift.
Here at Not Socks, we really do believe in the old adage that it’s the thought that counts.
It may seem corny nowadays, when you can find a plethora of gifts with so many impressive bells and whistles and bright lights incorporated that it can be easy to grab the shiniest, most expensive looking thing on the shelf in the hope it will convey the right message.
Of course we’re not against expensive, flashy, techno-wizardry and trendy gifts. We even like to receive them ourselves from time to time (see our contact details if you’d ever like to send us something shiny...).
But ultimately, the Not Socks team believe that when it all boils down to it, a gift should be something that shows you’ve really taken the time to think about what the recipient might enjoy, no matter what the price tag.
Why “Not Socks” Gifts?
Let’s be honest, no matter how you try to disguise them, socks still make a pretty crappy gift. Here at Not Socks we’re all about fun, fresh and thoughtful gifts... and socks just don’t cut it.
Rest assured, you’ll never find any socks or hankies on the site. If you do happen to see any of them (or any of their close relatives for that matter) sneak their way onto the site, be sure to let us know!
Hey, don’t get us wrong – we’re not “sockist” or anything. We totally agree they come in mighty handy from time-to-time. Simply, we love helping people come up with thoughtful and unique gift alternatives to express how they feel about someone.
